Arthur and John's relationship is the heart of Red Dead Redemption 2 . Yes, the story is primarily about Arthur's redemption, but it is through their relationship that we see the redemption taking place. And just as Arthur changes throughout the story, so too does John. Both start the story as immoral and violent men, and both end in better places having gone through their respective redemptive arcs. One could certainly argue that the "redemption" of Red Dead Redemption 2 is about both John and Arthur.
