Why are Serenoa's convictions constantly being strengthened, how do we as players affect the process, and why should any of us even care?

Conviction, as it happens, is a shorthand for a three-pronged system: Liberty, [https://Www.strategyinsights.xyz Https://Www.Strategyinsights.Xyz] Morality, Utility . The three play against each other in varying ways, and they're pivotal in the making of many of Triangle Strategy's narrative decisions.

Liberty, Morality, Utility, Explained

Triangle Strategy was criticized pre-launch for sticking to its bizarre title, but at least it owns it. Everything about the game, thematically, seems to revolve around the form of a triangle to some extent or another. In the case of the Conviction system, that's plain as day with Liberty, Morality, and Utility.

A wise ruler employs some measure of each of these aspects in their decision-making. The liberty to represent one's individuality within a kingdom; the morality to do what is right and refrain from what isn't; and the utility to take advantage of everything one can in order to further their people's happiness.

In Triangle Strategy, each of these aspects has a numerical designation . (The numbers are hidden until New Game Plus, at which point the whole thing cracks open like a nut and you can micromanage to your heart's content.) You accrue points based upon the choices you make throughout the game, and in turn, the total stockpile per aspect permits you (or rather, Serenoa) to exert greater degrees of influence when Scales of Conviction sequences take place.

Increasing Liberty

Spending money raises your Liberty, which is surely something Benjamin Franklin would get behind were he involved in the game's production. (He isn't. He's dead.)

Use plenty of items . Most importantly, this includes utilizing weapon upgrade materials with Jens, the blacksmith.

Examine your surroundings during the Exploration Phase.

Stealing and healing are two pretty different things to do during battles, but both earn you Liberty points, so get busy pilferin' or get busy curin'.

If the recommended level for a battle is beneath your army's average, Liberty Points are gained.

Increasing Morality

Your Morality points will rise through partaking in mental mock battles , which are Triangle Strategy's version of "free grind" fights outside the story.

Speaking with plenty of NPCs also raises Morality. Just chat with everyone at every Exploration Phase, and you'll build an impressive amount.

Spend lots of Kudos points as well.

In battles, you'll earn Morality points through achieving victory without killing every enemy unit (obviously impossible in fights where the goal is to do just that). Buffing your allies also earns Morality points, so a character like Benedict is highly helpful here despite his more Utility-minded personality.

Winning battles when the recommended level precisely matches your own average level.

Increasing Utility

Likely the easiest way to accrue Utility points is by gathering information, notes, and items during Exploration Phase. Our walkthrough always lists everything that can be found in towns and such, so simply gather as you normally would, and you're golden.

Another easy path is by selecting recommended units when heading into battles. The game is essentially rewarding us for playing by its rules.

Use Quietuses and secure spoils in battle. Also, in a bit of a dark twist from the Morality guidelines, you'll gain Utility points by winning objective-driven fights but still killing every enemy. (Example: The 'Take Back the Boat' mental mock battle merely requires you to have at least one unit occupy the boat on a turn when zero foes are doing so; that'll let you win, and earn Morality points, but slay everyone first for Utility points).

Winning battles when the recommended level is higher than yours.

The Scales of Conviction

Raising Liberty, Morality, and Utility plays a direct role in your success rate of convincing the game's lead characters to see Serenoa's point of view during Scales of Conviction sequences. Serenoa's point of view, of course, is whatever yours happens to be, and yours will be reflective of which story path(s) you wish to explore.

Triangle Strategy takes a twisty path to its finale, with a fair few battles and story beats playing out in entirely different ways. This is first depicted in Chapter Three, when Serenoa must decide whether to visit Aesfrost or Hyzante.

You'll note that the seven characters who each wield a Coin (and thus, a vote) at the Scales of Conviction will start off with three in favor of Aesfrost, three in favor of Hyzante, and Anna on her own with a great big shrug. In order to decide for yourself which path to choose, you must attempt to ensure at least four of the seven characters agree with your pick.

All things considered, even this big decision is peanuts next to the more monumental, realm-shaking choices that Serenoa must make further on.

How Strengthened Convictions Reward the Player

via Siliconera

https://www.siliconera.com/project-triangle-strategy-demo-appears-today-full-game-appears-in-2022/

First, let's note that a heightened degree of Conviction in a particular aspect "feeds into itself" in a nifty fashion: selecting a dialogue decision during Conviction-related conversations will boost that decision's reflected aspect substantially .

So, for example, during a Scales of Conviction event you'll be chatting with, say, Geela. And in order to press Geela into agreeing with you, you'll want — again, hypothetically here — a high enough Utility score. Picking the Utility-based dialogue option will add another 50 Utility points to your stockpile, thus raising Geela's likelihood to listen as the conversation continues.

This is the most readily apparent example of Convictions playing out in your favor; whatever it is that our above example would theoretically pertain to, you'll stand a far better chance of accomplishing it with a high score in a particular aspect. Grinding that out, even if you can't see the exact stockpile number until New Game Plus , is still worth the effort.

HIgh Conviction scores also influence the arrival of new playable characters via Character Stories . Starting around the fourth chapter or so, Character Stories will be accessible by pressing the '+' button while on the field map. Some Character Stories further develop important cast members in fun ways, and those will typically pop up per how often you use a given character in battles. But the rest will, indeed, provide powerful new units for Serenoa's army.

These units will only show up for recruitment if a given Conviction aspect has achieved a high enough result. For example, Julio Wrightman won't be available to meet, greet, and mete out enemy fetes with until a player has reached a significant milestone amount of Morality points. It's possible to play through an entire path without ever learning the guy's name!

Next: Triangle Strategy: Complete Guide And Walkthrough
Your foes are some traitorous Aesfrosti soldiers and you have some new allies for the fight.

This is the first mandatory battle wherein you will have Recommended units . That's what Erador told me, in perhaps more colorful words.

|

Liberty

It is the port at the center of commerce. A town built on taxes, but not at the expense of fair trade.

|

Utility

Wolffort is nestled safely behind the castle walls. It is a town at peace, and sets an example for the rest of the kingdom.

|

Morality

Conviction Choice: Child

Take care not to hurt yourself. Perhaps you can use that cleverness to help your father when you're older.

|

Utility

Once you have explored to your heart's content, hit the Plus button and witness the banquet scenes at Castle Wolffort.

Side Story: Whiteholm Castle

This event features some family drama between Roland, Frani, and their sister, Cordelia. It also introduces the mysterious character of Maxwell.

Main Story: Castle Wolffort

Serenoa, Frederica, and Dragan chat about politics and family in this event. You'll get a Conviction choice thrust upon you :

Conviction Choice: Dragan

It is the first step towards true harmony among our three nations. I welcome it.

|

Morality

It will benefit all nations involved. I see nothing wrong with that.

|

Utility

It is impossible to understand each nation's motivations. I can't say whether this bodes well.

|

Liberty

Dragan will prove himself a lightweight, and then it's onto the next scene featuring Lord Symon and Benedict.

Main Story: Castle Wolffort

In this event, you'll get a first look at the Scales of Conviction , an item that will be very important in the future.

Main Story: Whiteholm Castle

This event introduces you to Frederica's half-siblings. They're not very nice.

Once the event is over, you will have access to the Smithy in your Encampment . At the Smithy, you can trade Coins and materials for upgrades to your character's weapons. These can be as simple as attack increases or grant entirely new passive abilities.

Some recommended Smithy upgrades for the characters you currently have to hand are:

Serenoa : Weapon Damage Up I

Frederica : Clear Skies, Fire Damage Up

Geela : Weapon Damage Up I, HP Up I

Erador : Physical Defense Up I

Exploration Event: Whiteholm Castle

This exploration event is largely similar to what you experienced earlier in the chapter. There is a difference, though - this event introduces the ability to learn Information from NPCs.

Pieces of Information are very important as they can be used to sway characters to your viewpoint during a Voting Event . They will be essential for making sure you get to choose the story path you desire.

This grand banquet is full of people to talk to, but before you're able to explore, Roland asks you a question .

Conviction Choice: Roland

Have more faith in yourself, my friend. You, too, shoulder the future of the kingdom, after all.

|

Morality

This is no time for self-pity. A prince's subjects mustn't hear him talking that way.

|

Utility

…Come. Preparing for the tourney will take your mind off your worries.

|

Liberty

With that out of the way, Roland and Hughette will join your party officially.

Roland is a great spear-wielding warrior on horseback. He has high mobility, and his weapon can reach two squares.

Hughette is a hawk rider, which means she can fly up to any height. She's also an archer, and flying up to a high position will improve her damage output.

Now we can explore and pick up what we need to.

Items, Notes, And Information

Items

2x Sleep Recovery Pellet

|

On the round banquet table.

150 Coins

|

In the bushes near Roland and Hughette.

Information

The Ministry of Medicine

|

Talk to Sorsley, who is at one of the banquet tables.

The Holy State of Hyzante

|

Talk to Clarus, who is at one of the banquet tables.

The Ice Mage

|

Talk to the Glenbrook Soldier at the top of the stairs near the banquet.

The Captured Smuggler

|

Talk to the Aesfrosti Soldier standing by a shrub near Thalas and Erika.

The Archives

|

Talk to the Glenbrook Noble in the corner of the map near the banquet.

The Grand Duchy of Aesfrost

|

Talk to the Stout Hawkshield standing at the railing near Thalas and Erika.

Conviction Choices

Conviction Choice: Geela

It may be but a tourney, but defeat will bring shame upon us. I intend to do whatever I must to win.

|

Utility

Our house fights with honor. There shall be no tricks, but we will offer our opponents no quarter.

|

Morality

You handled yourselves admirably when the bandits attacked. I expect your magic will be key to our victory.

|

Liberty

Conviction Choice: Benedict

It's a chance for our three nations to gather and celebrate. Although the battles may be bloodless, victory is sweet all the same.

|

Liberty

In times of peace there are precious few chances to display martial prowess. I mean to remind people of House Wolffort's legacy.

|

Utility

It may appear to be mere entertainment, but reputations are at stake. If we show weakness, then it will be noted by all in attendance.

|

Morality

Once you have everything you need, it's time to start the tourney!

Combat Event: Whiteholm Castle

This tourney is only a mock battle, but it's a mock battle that you have to win. After all, you can't let Hyzante embarrass you! After some preamble about the structure of the event, you'll get right down to it.

Battle Overview

Recommended Level

|

3

---|---

Enemies

|

1x Sorsley, 1x Exharme, 4x Hyzantian Rogue, 2x Hyzantian Pikeman

Deployment

|

Deployment Limit: 8 Units

Mandatory Units: Serenoa, Roland

Objective

|

Defeat all enemies.

Spoils

|

1x Large HP Recovery Pellet

1x HP Ring

930 Coins

Difficulty

|

★★☆☆☆ (2/5)

This battle is a little step up from the tutorial battle back in Chapter One, but it's still not too tough. This battle is when you're introduced to the Battle Preparation menu. Here, you can decide the placement of your units and even head to the Encampment for last-minute shopping if needed.

I recommend having a few HP Recovery Pellets , as Geela may struggle to heal everyone effectively during this battle - it's a very small battlefield so your weaker units won't have many places to hide.

Once the battle is over, revel in your victory and watch the following scenes. Unfortunately, you don't get to control the battle against the Dawnspear - but it's probably for the best. Oh, well. At least that is chapter two of Triangle Strategy complete!

Next Chapter:

Triangle Strategy: Chapter 3, Part 1 - Wither The River Flows

NEXT: Triangle Strategy: Complete [https://www.strategyinsights.xyz/ SLG game resource guide] And Walkthrough
